CPAP Equipment and DVA Funding

The Department of Veterans' Affairs funds CPAP therapy for eligible veterans through its Rehabilitation Appliances Program (RAP). Covered items typically include the CPAP machine, mask, tubing and ongoing replacement supplies, provided you have an assessed clinical need.

  • Veteran Gold Card holders can access CPAP equipment for any clinically assessed need, whether or not the condition is service-related.
  • Veteran White Card holders can access CPAP equipment where it relates to an accepted, service-related condition.

The usual process is to see your GP or sleep specialist, who assesses your clinical need and provides a prescription. Once you have it, send us your details using the form below and our team will guide you through the next steps. If you already have a prescription, you can upload it here.

CPAP Equipment and the NDIS

The NDIS does not automatically fund CPAP machines, because obstructive sleep apnea is generally treated as a health-system responsibility rather than a disability support. However, where your sleep apnea is directly related to your approved disability and is included in your NDIS plan, funding may be available — usually with supporting clinical reports.

If you are plan-managed or self-managed, you have more flexibility in how you use your funding. Our team can provide a written quote to support your NDIS assessment or plan review. If you're unsure whether CPAP is included in your plan, your support coordinator or planner is the best person to confirm before you order.

How to Make a DVA or NDIS Enquiry

To help us assist you quickly, please include the following where you can:

  • Your DVA card type (Gold or White), or your NDIS plan management type (agency, plan or self-managed)
  • A copy of your prescription or therapy settings, if you have one
  • The equipment you need — for example a CPAP machine, mask, or replacement parts

Once we have your details, our friendly team will be in contact within one business day to help with the rest.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does DVA pay for a CPAP machine?

Yes. Eligible veterans can have CPAP machines and supplies funded through DVA's Rehabilitation Appliances Program when there is an assessed clinical need. Gold Card holders are covered for any clinical need; White Card holders are covered where the need relates to an accepted service condition. A prescription from your GP or specialist is required.

Will the NDIS pay for my CPAP machine?

Not in every case. CPAP for sleep apnea is usually managed through the health system rather than the NDIS. The NDIS may fund it where your sleep apnea is linked to your disability and included in your plan, supported by clinical evidence. It's best to check with your planner or support coordinator first.
