About the Diffuser

The diffuser sits within the mask elbow assembly and is the component through which exhaled CO₂ exits the mask circuit during CPAP therapy. Its small, precisely engineered holes distribute exhaled air in multiple directions, reducing noise and preventing a direct airstream from blowing towards your sleep partner. Because the diffuser plays a direct role in the safe operation of your mask, Fisher & Paykel's user guide requires that vent openings remain clean, unobstructed, and undamaged at all times.

When to Replace

Replacement of the diffuser is damage-based rather than time-based. Inspect the diffuser regularly during your routine mask clean. Replace it immediately if you notice any cracking, deformation, or holes that are visibly blocked and cannot be cleared by cleaning. To clean, use a soft-bristle brush (such as a soft toothbrush) to gently clear each hole, rinse thoroughly under warm running water, shake to remove excess water, and allow to air dry away from direct sunlight before reassembling.
