About the Headgear

The Vitera headgear features adjustable straps and forehead clips that work together to position and stabilise the mask across a range of face shapes. A well-fitted headgear is the foundation of effective CPAP therapy — it keeps the cushion seated correctly against the face, reducing air leaks and pressure disruptions. Over time, straps naturally stretch and lose their ability to hold tension, which is one of the most common causes of mask leak. Replacing the headgear restores that original, dialled-in fit.

Care & Cleaning

Hand wash the headgear weekly in warm water using a mild liquid soap. Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue. Do not use bleach, chlorine, alcohol, scented soaps, or moisturising or antibacterial soaps, as these can degrade the materials. Do not machine wash or tumble dry. Gently squeeze out excess water — do not wring — and allow to air dry away from direct sunlight. Refer to the Fisher & Paykel user guide for full care instructions.

When to Replace

Plan to replace your Vitera headgear approximately every 12 months as part of your regular CPAP maintenance routine. Replace sooner if you notice any of the following: straps have stretched out and no longer hold tension; visible fraying, pilling, or material breakdown; the mask is harder to fit or no longer maintains a good seal; or discolouration, staining, or odour that won't wash out. Worn headgear is one of the most overlooked causes of therapy disruption, so keeping it fresh makes a real difference.
