About the Headgear

The ResMed Mirage headgear features adjustable straps that allow you to dial in a personalised, secure fit. A well-fitted headgear is essential to getting effective CPAP therapy — it keeps the mask in position throughout the night, reduces the risk of air leaks, and helps you sleep more comfortably. Worn or stretched elastic is one of the most common causes of mask leak, so keeping your headgear in good condition is just as important as caring for your cushion or frame.

Care & Cleaning

Hand wash weekly in warm water using a mild liquid soap. Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue. Do not use bleach, chlorine, alcohol, scented soaps, or moisturising or antibacterial soaps, as these can degrade the materials. Do not machine wash or tumble dry. Gently squeeze out excess water — do not wring — and air dry away from direct sunlight. Always refer to the ResMed user guide for full care instructions specific to your mask.

When to Replace

As a general guide, replace your Mirage headgear approximately every 12 months. However, you may need to replace it sooner if you notice any of the following: straps have stretched out, lost their shape, or no longer hold tension; visible fraying, pilling, or material breakdown; the mask is harder to fit or no longer maintains a reliable seal; or there is discoloration, staining, or odour that persists after cleaning. Headgear is a normal wear-and-tear consumable — replacing it promptly keeps your therapy effective and your mask performing as it should.
