About the Headgear

The Swift FX back strap wraps around the back of the head, working in conjunction with the mask's front frame and nasal pillow cushions to keep everything positioned correctly throughout the night. A properly tensioned back strap is essential for a reliable seal — if it has stretched or lost its elasticity, the mask will shift during sleep, leading to air leaks and disrupted therapy. Replacing just the back strap is a cost-effective way to restore performance without replacing the entire mask system.

Care & Cleaning

Hand wash weekly in warm water with a mild liquid soap. Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue. Avoid bleach, chlorine, alcohol, and any scented, moisturising, or antibacterial soaps, as these can degrade the material. Do not machine wash or tumble dry. Gently squeeze out excess water — do not wring — and allow to air dry away from direct sunlight. Always refer to the ResMed user guide for full care instructions.

When to Replace

Replace the back strap approximately every 12 months, or sooner if you notice any of the following: the strap has stretched and no longer holds adequate tension; the mask is difficult to fit or no longer maintains a good seal; visible fraying, material breakdown, or discolouration and odour that won't wash out. Like all mask components, the back strap is a consumable part that degrades with regular use and washing — keeping it fresh is one of the simplest ways to protect the quality of your therapy.
