About the Headgear Pad

The Nova Nasal headgear pad is the soft, cushioning component that sits against the head as part of the mask's headgear assembly. It works alongside the straps to distribute pressure comfortably and keep the mask stable throughout the night. A well-maintained headgear pad helps reduce pressure marks and ensures the mask stays correctly positioned — which is key to minimising leaks and getting consistent therapy results. Over time, the pad material can deteriorate, flatten, or lose its softness, making it harder to achieve a good fit.

Care & Cleaning

Hand wash the headgear pad weekly in warm water using a mild liquid soap. Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue. Avoid bleach, chlorine, alcohol, and scented, moisturising, or antibacterial soaps, as these can degrade the material. Do not machine wash or tumble dry. Gently squeeze out excess water — do not wring — and allow to air dry away from direct sunlight. Refer to the Fisher & Paykel user guide for full care instructions.

When to Replace

Replace your headgear pad approximately every 12 months, or sooner if you notice any of the following: the pad has flattened, lost its shape, or no longer feels comfortable against the head; visible material breakdown, pilling, or discolouration; odour or staining that doesn't clean off; or the mask is becoming harder to position correctly or is leaking more than usual. Like all CPAP mask consumables, regular replacement is part of keeping your therapy working at its best.
